Why the double standard??
Published on October 25, 2004 By Manya77 In Blogging
hello people...i would like to bring to your notice the double standards followed by the moderators over here.....here is the link to my article on how i had lost my virginity (Link)....i had started writing this after i had gone thru one such similar article by tangled wishes (Link).....i had actually decided to tone down my writings abt adult stuff and also my writings abt sex....but this article by tangled wishes tells us how she lost her virginity and it was written abt 6 mnths back and till abt 2 hrs back, it was in the forum...

now i have the moderator commenting on the my article that i should have marked mine as adult and that i should not have posted it in the forum.....the article by tangled wishes was not marked as adult (though it contained liberal use of words like sex, orgasm etc in the article and in the comments section as well) and was in the forum till abt 2 hrs back (though it was written more than 6 mnths back).....and i went thru the comments section of that article hoping to find atleast 1 comment by the moderator or any person that the content was inappropriate for a general audience but i found none.....on the contrary, in addition to the article, the comment section was full of praise for the article and also contained experiences of others on how they lost their virginity....

but within 3 hrs of my article being posted, my article has been removed.....
now i would like to know why the same was not done for the other article...why the other article was not asked to be marked as adult by the moderator though it has been in existence for the past 6 mnths....and also why the article was not removed till abt 2 hrs back....how come it took them 6 mnths while it took only 3 hrs...and why was such a comment placed on my article and not a single comment on the other article by the moderators?? why the double standards??

if a proper explanation is given for this double standards, i am ready to take back all the statements which i have talked abt above....

You are completely out of line Manya.

The administrators of this site provide this service to us free of charge, at great expense to themselves - of both money and time. If they have a problem with what you are writing it is their decision to do something about it. If you don't like it then leave.

You are only a new comer and you have managed to annoy a large number of people in such a small time. Pissing off the administrators is one way for you to get your arse kicked off here quick smart. And for that I'd be thankful, to be honest.

Tangled's article was writen in a respectful tone and was in no way explicit. I have stopped reading your blogs because of the blatently gratuitous sexual content - not because I'm a prude but because I think that you are using sex to shock people.

Nevertheless, you should have marked your article as adult. That's one of the rules of the site. The fact that Tangled's wasn't picked up may have been for many reasons, but the fact that it wasn't marked as adult doesn't mean that it makes it right for yours not to be.

Be respectful of this place. You are being provided a service by very kind people who are tolerant of most things. Respect that.

Lets see...Tangled's article was nowhere near as explicit as yours.  She wrote more about how it made her feel emotionally that the mechanical aspect of it.  Yours was basically a step by step account of the act itself.

You were warned before about marking your articles 'adult content', and you chose to ignore that warning.  This is a free site, in case you hadn't noticed.  Draginol lets us blog here out of the goodness of his heart....he pays to run this site out of his own pocket.  Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

If you think that it's so unfair and biased here, there are plenty of other blog sites that I'm sure you'd find more to your liking.  Blogspot in particular, there are some people over there that I think you'd feel right at home with.

And when Tangled Wishes wroter her article, the "Adult Content" check box didn't exist yet.

Take care Manya, this is not a tree you want to bark up. I speak from personal experience.

And the future prospect of supporting his habbit

But Seriously Draginol is very loose with moderation, trust me there are many time on other sites of his that he has let threads go that I would have deleted and he has let me vent on things that probably should not have been. I have a long history of debating and conversing with him and he is passionate but fair and so are his admins.

I suggest you follow Draginol/Joeuser rules and the direction of the admins or go on your way.

Manya, you joined a blogsite where adults blog. This does not necessarilly mean that adult content is always welcome, marked so or not. We have diverse opinions on this site, politically, sexually oriented differences. Bassically we are all pretty tolerant of each others viewpoints. The Administration certainly has proven to most of us that they are fair.
Draganols comment should answer your question about double standards.
It is obvious from most of the replys your blogs have received that we are really not interested in your sex life, be it with somebody or with yourself. Don't try to blame the administration for your lack of creativity.

Just do what i do manya. If you even suspect you might offend someone, mark it as adult content. Even if it's really not that offensive.

Tangled Wishes article was written before the adult content feature was made.  Her article was not in the forums for quite some time until you responded to it, which brought it up.  If I had "double standards" as you claim, I would have hid yours and left hers be.  If you notice, since the feature is there, she marks things as appropriate.

If you don't want articles moderated, don't post them to the forums. You may also want to observe this site a bit more before you start crying foul at everything.

well...i very well understand the kindness of the people who run this site and i would like to thank them for giving me a free place to blog on instead of me having to spend hundreds of dollars running my own site.....i would just like to ask this one thing....would i let my sister read my article or tangled's article?? i would not.....my argument was that if my article is adult then so is tangled's....i dont have anything personal against anyone...either tangled or the moderator...my question was why tangled's article was not picked up for 6 mnths and why mine was within 3 hrs time....

in fact, to be frank, i specifically did not mark mine as 'adult' thought i wanted to, just to show that these things should be noticed....my reply did not bring up the article in the forum...it was up there already when i replied to it...i think a person called kim did it....and it would have been up there everytime someone replied to it and there have been 35 replies to it so far.....so my question was why it was not picked up...

i understand that the moderators are doing a great job...my aim was not to accuse the moderators or blame them but i just wanted to bring up that these things need to be picked up.....this site is growing fast and these things need to be taken care of as the site starts growing bigger and bigger....

well, i would like to be a moderator too and help these people...i may not be great but i can read english and i can be fair...so if u feel that i am blaming these people without reason, well i am ready to take up the job of moderation and help these people...

i dont have a problem in marking my articles as adult as long as others mark similar articles the same way.....that was what my concern was...why others were allowed to get away and why i was caught....and i wanted to bring up this point and thats why i did not mark it as adult on purpose....

as i said, this site is growing and if the moderators need help in their job, i am ready for it....but this was just to show that the moderators need to take extra care of such things as the site grows bigger as there is more chance of such things happening and more users getting dissatisfied which is not good for the site as well as the user.....

Why don't you just play by the rules and get on with it? This is all very immature saying 'Why do I get in trouble when she doesn't?' It's not as though you've been put on detention - you've been told to follow the administrators guidelines.

Now get over it.

Are you serious?  You can't even comprehend the difference between: 1) us asking you, with a new article, after you have been told over and over and over to mark such material as adult content and not doing it, and 2) an old article that was posted before the feature was there.  We then took both off the forums at the same time.  You then post an article of "double standards" but then flip flopped and say "i understand that the moderators are doing a great job...my aim was not to accuse the moderators or blame them" then flip flopped again and said "this was just to show that the moderators need to take extra care of such things as the site grows bigger".  And, to put icing on the cake, you linked this article to two articles that were removed from the forums, both which contained adult content.

We already explained the situation to you.  Why is that not enough?  Why can't you just blog by the rules and realize that there is stuff on here from the past before we had all the tools that we do now?  You also don't need to tell us how to do our jobs.  Trust me, we've raised online communities before.  People like you are usually short lived on a site like this.  You come in, post questionable material, then try to stir up trouble.  When the real community members don't put up with it, you'll leave.

Just follow the terms of use and don't worry about what others have done, OK?  Why is that such a difficult concept?

Are you for real?

What are you trying to achieve here? I think it's important for you to understand that when you joined JU you joined up to the terms of service here. We all abide by them and with that respect the people who allow us to blog here. Brad has done the internet community a great service. Here's a hint...Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
